Hey people and pets! Today, we have yet another YOU! report and interview! Woohoo! I just adore the many people writing in lately! Thank you all!

So. To have Mel get in touch with me was like opening my eyes that little bit more for the second time. I have re-found Zippy the Whippet's blog! Its wonderful! You see, I visited this blog ages ago now, and never remembered to go back, as I forgot on the day to save the blog to my blogroll that I follow… Now I follow the blog once again! After that reminder via email, striking me straight away with 3 big images of one beautiful big dog and friends.

day!

Ethel came home and IS home!!!!

Well, little Ethel came home on Sunday!! I am sorry that I have left you all in suspense for 3 paining days, however, I prepared you for the coming absence on my part for at least  few days because of our new puppy in last Saturday's post - bringing up a new little life is a very hectic thing for most, and its sure been a PAWsome, busy past few days for us in our household!

OK, so basically, Ethel is doing just about famously!

She has only done ONE wee properly in the house so far (touching that wood there) which is, in my opinion, remarkable for an 8 week old puppy and her new home she's just getting settled into! The other couple have just been excited dribbles when greeting us from inside her crate, not being able to wait to be unleashed!!

She has just about masted 'sit', when I show her how using my hand (and treats…!) and is responding to her name, or at least getting there pretty much so.

Her and Earl are friends, when we introduced them they had a sniff, and Earl couldn't care less! NOW, they roll around together and they were even tugging on a raggy this morning - together! Its so lovely to experience a once only-dog adapting so happily to suddenly having a companion.

She passed her vet check with flying colours, and especially loved his delicious GRAVY BONES!!!!! Mmmmmm :-)

Getting carried away there. Ethel told me to put that, OK?

Anyway. She has bundles of energy, and loves nothing more than zooming round the garden dragging behind her the hugest, heaviest toy in the basket around with her! I wouldn't be surprised if she now had mouth ache!! Severely!!

Earl and her are learning to share toys too!

We have to work on her love of twigs, leaves, petals, etc however. These are what she loves to have a good gnaw on, which we don't allow her to do.

On her journey home Sunday, she was sick once, big time. She whined, obviously feeling off at first, then slept soundly and solidly for the rest of the long journey! Bless her sweet little PUPsicle heart.

She also loves her cuddles with me. The bond is forming lovingly! The entire family has fallen in love with her big time - she is totally part of us now!!!

When she's asleep, Earl and I have some alone time, just the 2 of us, interacting. That's important. But he's so happy being a threesome now!

Its still exciting waking up to a pup every morning!

Hope everyone is still well, because you know, its been a horribly long time… 3 days is pitiful, huh? Hehehehehe. Sure.

Anyway, I'll post when I can! And some may be a little more wordless than today. But hey ho!

Preparing for a Puppy - Bear with Us (& Sepia Sat)

Hi, y'all! Well, tomorrow is the day! Ethel day! E-Day, as we call it!

And today we'll be taking you through the exciting process of preparing yourself for a young new canine addition to the family. Yes, its a thrilling time, and we can't wait one second (I'll get not a wink of sleep tonight I just know!) but it can also go wrong and cause upset and stress for everyone involved, new owner(s) and pup him/herself.

Another one of the major factors of introducing a new puppy, is the happiness of your existing dog/other pets if you have one/any. These must be as happy, if not happier than they were before the new arrival so that they learn to love their new housemate, enjoy time together and do not become jealous. Give your existing pet(s) more attention than before when the new arrival moves in!

I have also got Earl a new chew toy so he has something to do and so that he doesn't become stressed or jealous. I will give him this toy when Ethel moves in.

So. You will need to go on a shopping spree beforehand and get ALL your puppies new supplies. 

Here are some things you may want to invest in…

A lead and collar, plus a tag with the correct information supplied to be attached on the collar, plus other lead accessories, such as a poo bag holder filled with bags to assure that you never get caught without one!

Good quality, sturdy bowls that won't slip every time your puppy goes to drink/eat! If your's don't have non-slip bowls, place a mat underneath.

A good quality bed, that is the correct size for your puppy.

Some chew toys, to assist with your puppy's teething, like the pup Nylabone I have for Ethel (the brown one) and even an activity one, like a Kong Stuffing bone! I choose the bone not the original Kong for my puppy, because then she can get her mouth and teeth round it better.

A couple of bags of puppy training treats - rewards are vital in your puppy's successful training, especially in early days, so choose a tasty, motivating type of reward. Food is a great way to begin training.

A crate that your puppy has access to at all times, that is nice and sturdy and large enough for your own puppy. Try and keep your pup's adult size in mind if you want a crate to never replace unless broken, size-wise, I mean. This crate should then be filled with your pup's bedding, bowls, toys, blanket, etc.

Pet odour remover - your puppy is going to pee and poo sometime indoors until toilet trained properly, so use a spray to get rid of odours, clean up and prevent further marking there, preferably.

A cuddly toy! You could ask the breeder to let the mum sleep with this until your puppy comes home, then bringing this with you so she/he can sleep with it and feel reassured. Or if you share many cuddles with your puppy, YOU sleep with it for a few nights leading up to your pup moving in!!

If you choose to train with the assistance of puppy pads, do so. However we took our's back after talking with our trainer and deciding not to. That's a personal choice though of course!

You then need to put all your new supplies in place. Put beds in their required place, crates too. Put toys on blankets and position them to leave until the pup moves in.

If you are going to change the position of your existing pet(s)(')s(') bedding, blanket, toys, routine, etc, then start putting this into place with him/her/them as soon as you know your bringing the puppy home soon. He/she/they can then get used to this new arrangement and routine so they become happy with it and it is not a shock to them when pup comes home.
Also, please bear with us now and in the future, because we'll be, obviously, very occupied with little Ethel! So don't be surprised if we miss a few days posts.

Its that time again!!

And today is even more exciting for our PPP - why?

Because Sunday is the day that we're picking up our new Border Terrier bitch puppy, Ethel! We can't wait! Earls going to have a new lil' buddy!!

What have we been up to in July, then?

Earl helped celebrate my (his human's) birthday!

Earl slept hard at a sleepover!

We won big and won out into Grade 4 at Agility Nuts KC Show!

We took you through how to make an indoor doggy den this Dog House Repair Month!

Earl held a dog bone shape debate meeting!

Earl battled hard for one little treat which meant a LOT!

We showed you how to weigh your dog well!

Earl put tongue on grass and became a cowdog with 'corn'!

Earl did great again at Empingham Agility Comp Day1 for us!

And we did great for our 2nd day at Empingham!

Earl woofed a rainbow!

We spent a day watching from the eyes of our canine chums!

Earl spent some continuously joyous times with his prize monkey!

Earl hid in a very comical location!

Earl enjoyed a homemade cheesy block ice pop!

We chose our 2nd dog, BT bitch pup Ethel!

Wow - looking back, I'm not surprised Earl is crashed out sleeping and snoring currently! Another fun-filled, busy month of activity and laughs!

How we WOOF it!

So what are we planning on doing in August?

~ Picking up and spending the first month with our new BT bitch pup, Ethel!

~ Competing at Agility Nuts

~ Competing at Dog Vegas

Well. Not too busy - but what can we say? We're getting a new puppy! 

Yes. They sleep a lot. But still.

Next, we must answer - have we completed what we were planning on doing in July in July?

~ Compete at Kennel Club Agility Nuts

Complete? Yes /

~ Compete at a 2-day KC Empingham Agility Show

Complete? Yes / 

~ Celebrate my birthday (as Earl's owner!)

Complete? Yes /

~ Break up for the summer and spend all holiday with Earl!

Complete? So far - Yes / 

Yay! Everything completed!!
