Tasty Tuesday - Stuffing a Puppy Kong for your little one

Hi again, y'all! Today for the truly tastiest day of the week, we'll be talking through how to stuff a Puppy Kong for your own little one. 

As we all know, puppies have more sensitive stomachs than adult dogs. I have taken you through all sorts of wonderfully rich and tasty recipes consisting of human food that's healthy for dogs to stuff in their Kongs and last them for hours. But puppies, at the start, enjoy simpler things, so here are some of my ideas…

There are many puppy treats on the market. Stuffing these into puppy Kongs (here we're using a bone, and these small treats would not be effective in original Kongs) could never be easier!

With any dog, it frustrates me when people stuff a kong and leave the treats sticking out. Its like giving your dog treats for nothing. 

Here is how to stuff them so that its a fun challenge and takes more than 3 seconds!

1. Get your puppies favourite treats. You can buy many puppy-made treats from pet stores...

2. Stuff one in one end, and one in the other end of one side of the bone...

3. Place our thumb in one end and forefinger in the other. Press the treats so they touch together in the middle. This way it'll be harder for the pup to get them out, meaning longer stimulation periods...

4. Press a 3rd treat in each end and press into the middle with this included again as shown above...

5. Now for the final step of stuffing small treats in a puppy Kong bone, and the best step of all, give to your pup and watch her/him enjoy with delight!

***PLEASE NOTE*** We are using a Puppy Kong BONE, and stuffing using our method stated here in original puppy Kongs of the original shape and structure would not work out.

And we also love doing the following to Ethel's Kong - these treats are ideal for stuffing Kong bones with!

Just push them into each side of the Kong Bone, and that is all you need! They are delicious and succulent - dogs love them! 

They are ideal for this purpose!!

They take up the entire space of inside the stuffing part, and the ends are close to the holes on the bone - meaning your puppy can smell and taste the treats, but can't get them out simply, meaning motivation for stimulation! They are the perfect treats - we have no idea why they aren't re-named Kong Puppy Bone stuffing treats!!!

But you should also be careful - puppies should mainly be rewarded with treats manufactured just for puppies, as too much adult food/treats can be too rich, etc, as they are not designed for young puppies. The odd adult treat or few can work well for training or for the odd Kong and won't do your puppy any harm - but your puppy should, preferably stick to puppy food and treats for the majority of the time.

Monday Mischief - Togetherness & it's Bloopers

I finally managed to get a decent (in fact charming) photo of my two together! 

Its absolutely adorable!! 

For most of my followers, you'll know that Earl has never been very sucked up to Ethel. He has always preferred to turn his furry back on her every time she comes up to him. Now however, he's much happier to sit with her, looking at the treat I am holding temptingly in my non-camera hand!

I snapped away and took this photo out as the best afterwards. 

Here are also some of the bloopers, of Ethel completely blurred out due to movement! Its hilarious - Earl just sat obediently, and then Ethel doing everything around him!!!

Agility Nuts - Day 2 and last day of summer series 2014! (& B&W Sun)

So proud of my 'ickle man again today! Our first run, 'Power and Tunnels', we went Clear, however, the timer failed massively therefore we had to do a re-run, which Earl wasn't too happy about… but luckily, we still went clear so that was that. Due to having to do a late re-run of the first course, I missed half of my walking time for the next class, jumping, therefore forgot my way and took Earl over the incorrect jump, therefore we were eliminated in that one - but it was my mistake - Earl went exactly where I told him to go, and from him it was a super-duper run indeed. So can't complain. We then went on to totally storm the agility class, with yet another win - 1st places are all our's this weekend, hehe!!! It was a lovely run with a bouncy set of 12 waves from the boy of mine. Super little fella. Our last run was helter-skelter, a simple, fast and furious jumping course, which we went Clear in! Yay! Then at the end of the day were presented with 2nd place in the entire league, out of about 30 people. I was super proud, considering we missed at least 3-4 competitions therefore vital league points due to them all being 2 day ones! We will now move up from ABL Starters to ABL Novice-Plus! Woohoo!

FitDog Friday and Paws Up! - What can you do with an un-vaccinated puppy?

Today, we're joining in to feel fit with FitDog Friday!

And we're focussing, aptly, on the subject of puppy exercise and stimulation. How much should you give preventing any physical damage and over stimulation before your pup is jabbed? And what can you do for a contented puppy?

As we all know, puppies are just full of fun and bags of energy. And its hard, I know, to be unable to take your's for a long run in the open world. Especially with a high energy breed, you can be blessed with the few tips I am about to give you for un-vaccinated puppy entertainment in your household…

1. Play with your puppy, both in and outdoors. Interaction is key, between the two of you. This will keep her happy, exercised and stimulated, plus bonding with her person!

2. Train. Tricks, lead work - its all exercise and stimulation, in your own house area!

3. Make sure you have plenty of down time with your puppy. Put her in her bed to sleep, and cuddle her on your lap from time to time. Your puppy should have plenty of rest.

So see? You can still do plenty with your puppy before her final vaccination! 

And as far as socialisation, take your puppy in the car, to see sights and other dogs, but never put him/her down before the final vac. 

If you have another dog(s) in the house, these family members will work well with socialising your pup to other dogs.

Out and about getting used to the car and the sights out the windows.

Other family dogs act as an early, safe canine-to-canine socialisation dog.

Any other pets are also beneficial if the puppy is brought up well around them to start with.

So play around in your home and in the garden - it is a safe place to exercise.

If you have no garden, try and create one room in your house as a puppy play room. Choose a largish room and fill it with toys, beds, etc. 

It will be fun!

Ethel has her final vaccination tomorrow (Saturday 16 Aug 14)

AND NEVER PUT YOUR PUPPY DOWN BEFORE VACCINATIONS. THEY ARE GIVEN TO PROTECT YOUR PUPPY FROM THE OUTSIDE AND ITS HAZARDS WHICH COULD BE PICKED UP BY YOUR PUP WILL LITTLE IMMUNITY SO EARLY IN LIFE.

Enjoy life with your puppy to the full! They won't be this little for long!
