Young Muscles

Muscles in puppies and young dogs are still developing. It is important that you understand that too much exercise on grounds such as hard pavements could cause the muscles damage, or prevent them growing as they should. This is the reason as to why many people recommend small walks and plays when young. However, did you realise that running on grass and similar soft surfaces can actually help puppies and young dogs muscles to grow, develop and become strong? Not only does this help to give the dog the required exercise he or she needs to prevent boredom and remain sane, but this also helps the young muscles. So when you encourage your puppy to run and play, doing so on grass helps a lot. Aim to avoid your puppy and/or junior taking out strenuous exercise on pavements and other hard surfaces.

Ethel, here, loves her grass running and playing.

Not only will this type of exercise benefit your young dog when it comes to growing and developing physically, it will also keep him/her mentally sound and exercised. A tired dog is generally a happy and calm dog, so this is an ideal thing to do on a regular basis. Have a blast with your dog, ensure he/she gets his/her regular exercise and stimulation, spend time outdoors, and get some much needed fresh air, all in the sound knowledge that you're doing your young dog good and aiding him/her for a fit and healthy, happy future as an adult dog.

Summer is Coming

There is one thing that lets the dogs know that summer is coming, and will soon be in full force. The return of their beloved frozen Kong recipes! Our more long time readers may remember last year, when I went to town to create some delicious Kong recipes to stuff and freeze for Earl. Now, for the first summer, young Ethel can also try Earl's delightful summer favourites! So, this weekend just passed, I decided, as it was so warm, to whip up Earl's favourite Kong recipe. Banana and peanut butter mixed in!

I whipped up the blend of chopped up banana and peanut butter in a bowl, two canine tongues lolling below my busy hands.

I stuffed the mixture into their Kongs, ensuring that each Kong was given a good dollop, to fill all the way through; even poking out the end! Could the dogs become any more excited?

Then, I placed them together into a container and shut the lid, shoving them into the freezer to stay there overnight. Turning around again, brushing my hands and sighing with content at my done job, I realised; a good dollop of the mixture was left over. If I had even stuffed those Kongs with ANY more mixture, they would have oozed all over, much to the dogs' delight. So, cleverly, I dolloped this extra, leftover mixture into a separate, small tub. That also went alongside the Kongs in the freezer, and soon enough, the dogs would be able to much on some separate, frozen peanut butter and banana ice cubes. Bragging rights; what a smart idea!

And then, all the dogs had to do was wait until they had done... We love Kongs. Because did you know, the Kong Original has even been voted Best Dog Toy in the Your Dog Magazine Product Awards severals years running? Dogs and their people know just how epic Kongs are.

And guess who got to lick the bowl once I had finished making the mixture? Earl did!

Ah, frozen Kongs. A summer doggy delight. There are many different Kong recipes you can try out with your dog. Just search 'Frozen Kongs' in the search bar at the top of our sidebar on the right, and you can have a look through some of the recipes we have tried. Please note that these recipes can be give with just as much enjoyment without being frozen! It is up to you! You could also check out the official Kong website, and have a look on their recipes page. Some more fun, and doggy delicious recipes to try out yourself.

Story and Interview (Slanted grey = me and Blue = Interviewee).

Hi Frada! Please could you introduce us to your dog?

Riley is a Miniature Schnauzer puppy. She also lives with 'the cat' and two rabbits.

What do you love to do with Riley?

Riley loves to chase a football around the garden, a peanut butter filled Kong, plus meeting new dogs.  I love taking her for walks and training her.

Why did you set up your blog?

My blog, called My Mutt Riley - website http://muttofmine.blogspot.co.uk/ - was set up by me to share my love of Riley and dogs in general. Once Riley came to live with us, it now revolves more-or-less around the things that she gets up to, and takes a look at her adventures.

How does Riley inspire you in your day-to-day life?

She is always ready to do something. And if she can't do something, she never gives up, and keeps on trying.

It sounds as though you and Riley share a blissful life of friendship. It was lovely talking to you Frada!

You should, without a single doubt, check out Frada and Riley's blog; it is full of adventures, and laughs! Ensure you do so, right HERE, right now! Thanks so much for writing in, Frada! We loved learning more about you and your life with your gorgeous Riley.

YOU can also write in and be featured here on Earl's World!, by emailing in at borderterriersruleOK@gmail.com - visit out OFFICIAL YOU PAGE HERE to find out what to include and how to do so. When you write in, you are guaranteed to have your report published sometime on the blog. Remember, when you put this badge on your own blog, include the link and link back to your interview post here on our blog, so others can have a look and view your fame for themselves!

We are thinking of making a new badge soon!

We can't wait to discover some new people writing in to be a YOU interviewee.
