Rest is on the menu for my brave girl. |
So what is spaying, and what happens, and why is it available? Well, spaying is a procedure taken out by a vet to prevent pregnancies in bitches. Owners of female dogs who do not want their dogs to have puppies, or risk the chance, choose to get their bitches spayed. Spaying is known to help prevent some illnesses in entire bitches, however there are arguments on either side. It is, simply the choice of the owner. This operation removes both ovaries and the entire reproductive tract down to the level of the cervix. This is in bitches; The male version is castration, which removes the dog's testicles when carried out. Although spaying is mainly carried out in bitches to prevent unwanted pregnancies, it reaps many other benefits, too, such as helping to prevent false pregnancies, womb infections, and the bitch will also never come into season again. Once the operation has been carried out, the bitch will be woken from her general anaesthetic, where she will need constant TLC and rest until the wound has healed. The wound will be located on the dog's lower belly. If you notice any abnormalities, such as leaking and excessive bleeding, another visit to the vets is needed. You will also be booked in for a post-op check up around a week or less later, so the vet can assess how she is healing. Until the wound is healed up, your girl will need to either wear an Elizabethan collar, a large collar which surrounds the head, preventing her reaching the wound to lick and irritate, or, she could even wear an adapted baby grow, in which we have chosen for Ethel to wear. She can sleep comfortably in her baby grow, and it prevents her getting at the wound.
We are joining our hosts Dachshund Nola and Sugar The Golden Retriever for the Black and White Sunday Blog Hop. We send many thanks their way, and you can join in below.
Feel better soon! Mine was jumping around her second day, no matter how hard I tried to stop her lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle. Bless.
DeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteOh Ethel, don't worry, it will be a quick recovery. Probably the worst part is being penned up, but I'm sure your mom has lots of stuffed Kongs and the like to help the time to pass.
Y'all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
We hope so. Thank you Hawk. Oh I do!
DeleteBrave Ethel! You'll be able to run around again in no time!
ReplyDeleteWags and Woofs from Imogen and Millie
She is a brave girl. She can't wait.
DeleteMy sisters and I are all spayed too. Not a fun procedure, but when one is young and healthy, you heal fast and it will soon all be forgotten. I didn't get spayed until I was 3 because we thought about breeding. For me the healing took a bit longer since I was older.
ReplyDeleteGood girls. I see. Glad you did recover in the end.
DeleteHope you have a swift recovery Ethel and get back to running swiftly!

DeleteRest up and get better soon! Happy Sunday
ReplyDeleteOz
She will, even though she'd rather not rest up. Have a good day.
DeleteAww you brave girl Ethel. Wishing you a very speedy recovery. Great post and important message- spaying and neutering our pets helps reduce the number of animals going into shelters and rescues. Pug Hugs - Have a relaxing Sunday X Kilo the Pug and Susie

Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Thank you guys. I am sure she will be!
DeleteThank you for being a responsible pet parent and spaying Ethel! There are far too many unwanted litters that create crowding in shelters. People always think they'll find homes for all their puppies but invariably some end up in the shelter. I'm sure Ethel will be up and about in just a couple of days! Hugs & Kisses, Ethel! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteLove & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
You are much welcome! There sure are. She is a pet and an agility dog, not a mum. We are not breeders, not now. We did the sensible and responsible thing. If Ethel knew the puppies we are saving from possibly ending up homeless, she would be pleased we did this.
DeleteWe are sending you lots and lots of healing vibes, Ethel!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots♥
