1. If you're all out of the house, ensure you have someone you trust coming in to let your dog out for the toilet and some exercise. This could be a couple of times per day or more.
2. Leading up to going back to school, get your dog used to being slightly less active and/or alone for longer periods. Dogs shouldn't be left for too long, however, if at all. However, sometimes this isn't practical for all dog owners. Your dog should get used to the house being quieter.
3. Prepare a delicious snack for your dog. Snacks such as stuffed Kongs bode well to entertain your dog when the routine goes back to normal. Make him enjoy some down time.
4. Dedicate your time at home to exercising, training, and loving your dog. Show him you all still adore him. Keep your dog's routine similar to normal at all times to avoid further confusion and upset for him. Your dog's needs must always be met to their full extent.
5. If your dog shows any signs of being unhappy, ask your vet or a qualified behaviourist for their advice on what to do. In the meantime, you could use a calming product such as a calming plug-in or calming wear.
We hope your dog remains happy throughout back to school time.
Oh Ethel! You're not going to human school, although I really do wish you and Earl were!
P.S. I'm back to school today, sadly. It's almost time for me to do my all-important GCSEs, which means I'll be studying hard. We'll still try our very hardest to keep our posts as regular as they are now, however, if we miss a couple of days now and then, I hope you'll all understand!
We're joining our hosts 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like A Dog in the Thursday Barks And Bytes Blog Hop. We send many thanks their way, and you can join in below.
What a total cutie!! Great tips too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, and thanks again!
DeleteGreat post - and what a cutie patootie!
ReplyDeleteHehehehe, thanks!
DeleteJust a word of caution, be careful with Kongs. We have been reading about different dogs getting Kongs stuck on their tongues while their owners aren't home.
ReplyDeleteOh no, really? That's awful.
DeleteLuckily, our lives remain the same, no one going off to school here.
ReplyDeleteGood for you!
DeleteSome dogs really miss those that head back to school, so these are great tips if they're a little bummed about the change of schedules.
ReplyDeleteI agree. School is a bum.
DeleteEarl and Ethel are so cute. I really enjoyed your post about dog photography as I am new to the blogging. Thank you for visiting my site too.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! No problem, I'll be back!
DeleteGreat tips. Brown dawgs are happy that they do not have to worry about back to school time. Good luck with your studies and thanks for joining the hop.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Oh, good. And thanks, I'll be revising hard!
Deletethanks for great tips! I wish you a super school year :o) I wish we had a school were dogs were allowed too ;o)
ReplyDeleteNo problem! And thanks! I REALLY wish mine could come with me!
DeleteGood luck with your school studies!
ReplyDeleteI think you have some good tips here, it's so important to remember that our pups don't understand things the way we do and can therefore become confused or anxious when something changes. Thanks for adding this to the bloghop!
Thanks! And I agree, they can easily become confused and upset if we don't help them.
DeleteBest of luck with the GCSEs (whatever they are)!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They're huge exams at the end of Year 11 at school. They determine whether you get an A grade, B, C etc.
