For a while now, Ethel has been incredibly interested in the comings and goings of our painful friends, the wasps; especially when they make their way into our house (argh). For months, she's been googling at them, buzzing around, head butting our living room window, unable to make an escape. Oh, and... hoping to get a bite. Ouch.
Well, as hard as we tried to halt her dangerous behaviour, it came to no avail. Because only a couple of evenings ago, following a long day at work and school, Ethel was stung. On her bottom lip. By a wasp. And it lived through loosing its sting. Once I'd located the wasp sting lodged into her bottom lip, making her feel wobbly and uneasy with an incredibly rapid heartbeat, we found the culprit wasp. For evidence, we scooped the wasp into a jar, and rushed Ethel up to the vets.
And yes, the vets did manage to pull the sting out of Ethel's bottom lip, and prescribed her with some antihistamines just in case. However, when we first arrived at the vets, I was a little worried as to how any vet could calm my crazy girl down. She was going BONKERS to be there. But no, they managed to calm her down, miraculously... She recovered well, and, luckily, didn't have any funny reactions.
Oh, and guess what else?!
THE VET GAVE HER GRAVY BONES!
We're joining our hosts Snoopy's Dogblog, Alfie's Blog and My Brown Newfies in the Monday Mischief Blog Hop. We send many thanks their way, and you can join in below.
My dogs keep snapping at flies, I'm so afraid they will find a larger, more painful flying toy to go after. Glad Ethel is all right.
ReplyDeleteIt was only a matter of time before this happened to Ethel. She'd never leave them alone. Hopefully this may have taught her a lesson, as horrible as it was. There was no way of stopping her.
DeleteArrhh poor Ethel. She must learn to seize the wasp with the teeth, chew hard and spit out. Then it is not dangerous to smell it afterwards. This is how I do it LOL. Sometimes Vaks eat the wasp afterwards. He think he is so brave :)
ReplyDeleteI know, bless her! She was so brave, though! Maybe she should just keep away from them altogether from now on...
DeleteOh Ethel how scary. We just read to use a credit card swiping it against the stinger. Obviously not when it's in your lip
ReplyDeleteFeel better sweetie
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
I know, it wasn't nice. Well, what an interesting method! And thanks, she's all better now!
DeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteBeware the thingies with stingers!
Hmmm...really have to rethink the treats the vet gives out.
Y'all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Agreed! I'm not sure Ethel does, though...
DeleteI hit delete. Oops. Sweet Ethel, you need to stay away from those bugs!! Glad you are all good again :)
ReplyDeleteHehe, never mind! And yes, she does. To her, they're playthings!
DeleteOh, poor sweetie! But at least there were gravy bones! Rita also recently had to visit the vet for similar reasons although we don't know what got her! I worry about Rita getting stung by a bee or wasp since she loves to chase bugs, silly girl!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for gravy bones! They made the whole situation more bearable for little Ethel. Ethel is the same; anything that moves should be pounced on!
DeleteI think every pup gets stung at some point. It hurts a lot, but none of us have had any reaction. Glad Ethel is alright.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't nice. I know from my own experience as a human!
DeleteOh, I feel Ethel's pain--literally! I got stung on the arm last night while I was lounging around in the hot tub. Maybe I should eat some meaty treats, too!
ReplyDeleteJean from Welcome to the Menagerie
Oh no, isn't it horrible? Ethel highly recommends gravy bones!
DeleteWasps are very definitely MISCHIEF!
ReplyDeleteOh, ouch! That's no fun at all!! Hopefully Ethel has a quick recovery! I'm sure those gravy bones will help ;)
ReplyDeleteNo, it wasn't pleasant for any of us, especially Ethel. She's good again now, thanks!
DeleteOuch! I hope she's OK now. Mr. N is allergic to bee stings so I'm super paranoid.
ReplyDeleteShe's fine now, thanks. Oh, poor Mr. N. I can see why you'd be paranoid.
DeletePoor Ethel! The gravy bones sound nice hope it was worth it. Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteIt IS food, so I'm sure Ethel would say it was a happy ending!
DeleteWell, gravy bones might make it all worth it.
ReplyDeleteIn Ethel's opinion as a foodie, it was!
DeleteI hate to tell you this, but a sting will probably not deter her fascination with them. Bentley tries to eat bees and has gotten his nose stung more than once! I even got rid of my hydrangeas because they drew the bees. Of course, Ethel is very smart so you might have better luck. BOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're right. I can't see Ethel keeping her distance from wasps again. Too much temptation, I guess...
DeleteGravy bones??? I needs to talk to MY vet....
ReplyDeleteYep, you give them a good word if you're not getting any!
DeleteI bet that hurt but the gravy bones sure sound good.

I'm sure it did, but she was incredibly brave. I didn't hear and single whimper from her.
DeleteYou poor girl, Ethel, but we betcha you didn't learn your lesson about stinging flying things, huh. I, Mitch, love to snap at and catch bees. We hope the gravy bones made you feel better!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she hasn't really learnt her lesson. Wasps LOOK like such fun...
DeleteOh dear Ethel, what a to-do! My sisfur Amber is a bug snapper/chaser... oh the drama!
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad that effurything worked out in the end and mew got a tasty treat too, that always helps! MOL

Food always helps, Ethel agrees! But I can imagine the pain of the sting in her lip.
DeleteEthel that wasps are super evil... I had the "pleasure" of a meet&greet with the black&yellow bugs too... I've got only a treatment for my nose and NO gravy bones...
ReplyDeleteOh, no gravy bones? Ah, no! And yes, they ARE evil little blighters, as fun as they may appear to Ethel.
DeleteEek! Bees and wasps scare me! My huskies haven't been stung..... YET!
ReplyDeleteღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Bees aren't half as bad as wasps! Hopefully your Huskies won't ever have to go through the pain.
DeleteSo happy Ethel is OK!!!! We hate wasps here too!!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
We are as well! They're evil, and painful!
DeleteStanley got stung this summer butt he did not get gravy bones!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Oh no! No gravy bones? How did he cope? I hope he was a brave boy.
DeleteOh no poor Ethel. I am glad she is OK. Why do dogs do some of the stupid things they do? I hope she learned a lesson.
ReplyDeleteI know, bless her. She was such a brave little girl, though. I guess dogs are just playful...!
