Dog Cooling Coat Product Review & How to Use Guide

Hi, y'all! At All About Dogs, which we posted about recently, I bought my Earl a doggy Cooling Coat from a jam-packed stall! Its just great! And today, I am going to be writing a product review on it for all your information. I am also going to be writing, along with some wonderful images, a detailed How To guide on preparing and putting on the coat, then getting your dog used to wearing it. I hope you find it helpful, and if you do decide to get your own furry-friend(s) one, then from my own experience, it will keep him/her cool all of this hot summer season!

Product: Canine Cooling Coat
Function: Cooling dogs using gentle water procedures

Tester: Earl, Border Terrier
Observer: Earl's owner

When did we first test this product?

We tested this product on a hot day recently. It was an evening, but still very warm, and Earl was panting, frequently laying down, and was generally in a state of boiling! Therefore we prepared the coat (please read on for a How To guide on its prep and usage) and put it on Earl. We rested him for a while, and in a few minuets his panting had stopped completely! It was great!

We bought this at the All About Dogs show at a stall full of all things doggy, really!

Main functions

The Dog Cooling Coat aims cool hot dogs using a gentle water procedure. It wraps around the dos body after being dunked in water and lightly wrung out, and cools the dog right down.

DID YOU KNOW??
Water cools as it dries!!

Here is how it looks close up.

Do you see those absorbing holes there? They are just part of the huge success and function of the coat.

How on Earl's World do you use it then?

I can hear you asking it already!

Well OK. Here we go! A handy reference guide online to how to prepare and put on your dog's cooling coat…

1. Fill up the sealing bag you get with coat/you buy separately (depends on brand of coat, we got one with our coat) with cold water.

2. Fold up the coat as best as you can, and put it inside the bag of water.

3. Seal up the lid with the sealer and give it a good but not too rough shake around. Move the coat around inside, and tip the bag this way and that. MAKE SURE THE BAG IS WELL SEALED FIRST!!!!!

4. Get the coat out of the bag, and wring it out outside or down a drain.

5. Strap the two straps up firmly: one around the stomach, and one over the chest.

Around the stomach strap

Over the chest strap

6. Your dog's cool coat is now on him/her! Its time to watch as the panting slows and the body temperature drops to a better, more comfortable level.

7. Now, you can help encourage your dog to walk, run, play, sit and lie down etc as normal in his coat. I needed to do this with Earl, as he always seems a little hesitant to carry out normal doings when he's wearing things. Throw balls, kick a football, lure with a tuggy to your dog and he should get comfortable. The coat can slip to the side when running because of the water's heaviness, and get a little dirty when lied down on. More on washing, and some cons, as well as pros, down this wonderful page……………..

Carrying out normal activities may seem weird to your dog in a heavy coat.

'Come on, lets play!' - help your dog realise that this coat means fun too!
And those are the simple and pleasingly easy steps of preparing and putting on your dog's cooling coat!

Now for the pros and cons of the product.

PROS:

~ Very effective
~ Works swiftly, depending on the temperature when wearing
~ Has good-enough strong velcro
~ Easy to prepare
~ Easy to put on
~ Soft
~ Roomy enough not to be too tight and uncomfortable if you assure you buy the correct size for your individual dog and breed

CONS:

~ Tail can sometimes become pushed down when wearing
~ The majority of the time, the coat falls to one side when dog is running

See how the tail can become pushed down by the material, especially when heavy and wet?

Washing… and how to do so.

You can wash your dog's cool coat by putting it on a LOW SETTING in the washing machine. You shouldn't have to wash the cooling coat that often.

VITAL ADVICE, YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT!
Do not put this on your dog when the weather IS NOT HOT. This could give your dog a chill and make him feel 100% UNCOMFORTABLE. Only use in hot weather when needed.

So what do I think overall about this product??!!

Overall, I think this is an absolutely fantastically fab product, great for those hot summer months. The idea behind this product blows me away - I think it is a wonderful creation. However, different brands may and most likely will have different points to them, good bits, bad bits, and completely and utterly different bits. So don't buy a cooling coat of a different type and expect all what I have written to be exactly about it. That could easily be a different matter.

Now for the exciting part, everyones been waiting desperately for!!!

What do I give this product, when it comes to paw-ratings?

Drum roll, please!

I give this Dog Cooling Coat a…

A 4 and 3 quater paw rating!!!

That's really good, you know!!?

So overall, I am shooting recommendations at you and your dawgs for this summer especially! Cooling coats last you summer after summer oh yes!

So ya'll can truly…

I hope this guide has been a use to you, and you enjoyed the Earl photos, as usual I am sure.

*I write reviews on dog-related items for nothing. I review an item that I have bought myself for the sheer benefit of my readers. It is my choice, and my reviews are totally independent work.

This has been another Earl's World! review!

So…

Earl's message is clear and true. Listen to the Border, or you shall face the terrible consequences (literally).
