When did I read this book?
I received it on the 19th of May, and it only took me the period of a few days to read! Since, book reviews have gone out of my head! *Doh* - but here we are.
What is the book about?
The book tells many tales (or tails should I say!) of how former Battersea Dogs and Cats have found a home, a sofa and a forever loving family/owner. It then tells the story of what the Battersea animal and their new owner get up to, what adventures they have, what sports they take up, or how they help each other in life. It is touching and heartwarming, but sad in some places too.
It will probably make you well up in several places whilst reading, so be prepared for this and have tissues at the ready!
*Sniff*Sniff* - so overwhelming! |
A very good example of the heartwarming stories of owners and their Battersea pets, is little 9-year-old boy Ben, suffering with exceptionally rare Dermatomyositis, and his Battersea Lurcher, Harper. The pair are best friends - a dog is all Ben ever wanted to keep him going through his illnesses. Having a dog helped Ben improve and enjoy life more than he would have done without an occupation. Harper proved a life saver for little Ben.
There are 12 entire tales of Battersea pets (dogs and cats) throughout the book, how they found their homes and what they have done since - all covering 296 pages!
Is there a special touch to the book?
Yes! In the first few pages, there is a foreword from celebrity Paul O'Grady talking about his time working with and shooting for Battersea Dogs And Cats Home, and how he loved every moment.
Being written by the Home itself, this also makes it an extra special book, told by those who saw it all.
Who is the book suitable for?
The book is suitable for absolutely anyone, from children to seniors. Everyone who reads this is sure to be thrilled, inspired, and touched by the charm of the book and its many tales and tails. There is no known age limit as far as I am aware, so you won't have to get your glasses in a knot as you yearn to read!!!
Woofs! I can read! |
The book has a simple enough vocabulary that is it suitable for children, but is not this so as to be boring for adults and more advanced readers.
Are there any pictures?
In the middle of the book, you will find a glossy selection of pure photo pages, including photos of every dog, cat, owner, and tale in the book imaginable, each with a number and caption stating which dog from which story it is in the photo, to prevent any confusion cropping up!
Extra information
The book thanks the owners of the Battersea pets for sending in their own stories and photographs. Written by the owners themselves, put together by the home.
My overall view of the book
Overall, I truly LOVE the book! It was such a lovely read, and shows the huge bond and relationships between dogs and owners. It also highlights that rescue dogs can be as just a joy as pedigree or breeder born dogs!! And how far these dogs can come, and never look back at their cruel pasts.
These strong dogs and strong owners are truly something to want to read about!

So now… DRUM ROLL, PLEASE!!
