Thursday Barks and Bytes - Petface Pink/Brown/Beige Polka Dotted Puppy/Small Dog Collar and Lead Set Product Review

Greetings. We are in a very formal mood today - why? Because we're ready to write a honest, easy-to-grasp product review on a fairly new product that we have been trying out for just over 2 weeks. And yes, you have guessed it right. Its Ethel's!

Product: Petface Pink/Brown/Beige Polka Dotted Puppy/Small Dog Collar and Lead set
Function: For wearing (collar) and walking dogs (both)

Tester: Ethel, Border Terrier puppy
Observer: Ethel and Earl's Owner

When did we first try out this product?

We first tried out this product when Ethel was just over 9 weeks of age. As it would then be only a few more weeks until she would be allowed to walk on the lead down the street and into the big wide world, that lead attached to a collar. So we put the collar on her, and let her get used to that for about 5 days. Then, after this period of time, we let the lead drape lightly round after her, attached to the collar, so she would get used to the feel. We also did some lead training in the garden and house.

Where did we buy this product from?

We bought this product from our local Pets At Home, one out of many stockists of this product and it's brand of pet products.

Main functions:

The Petface collar and lead set for puppies and small dogs has the same aim as other collars and leads - collars hold vital ID Tags, and leads prevent your puppy/dog wandering or running off into traffic, out of sight, etc.

Target Audience:

The Target Audience for this product is owners of small dogs or puppies. The collar only gets wider to a certain extent - too small for larger breeds.

The set split up:

The Collar:

The collar is robust enough for puppies and small dogs. It uses a buckle to clip together around the dog's neck. It includes a D ring and the Petface logo. It is of a sturdy material, however still comfortable to wear on the dog's neck. It is spotted and cute!

Ethel wearing her collar, with her own ID Tag (buy your own tag separately)

Both tag and lead clip can attach to the D ring together, sturdily.

The Lead:

The lead's metal clip is sturdy and feels unlikely to bust. It holds the Petface logo and matches the collar, of course. It is long enough for small dogs and puppies to be held by an adult at a comfortable level, children it may be slightly long, so they would have to wind it up just very slightly. The material itself is sturdy but comfortable to hold, however if pulled on by the dog, the materiel can really hurt your hands!

The lead sturdily attaches to the collar, with a quick and easy clip-on, clip-off action.

The lead is great for puppies getting used to wearing leads and for gentle direction training.

The entire set looked at again from now.

Pros:

~ Both are sturdy enough for puppies and small dogs
~ Collar widens to the width of the largest small breed dog
~ Collar includes a sturdy D ring for tag and lead attachment
~ Both look appealing
~ Lead long enough for adults at comfortable length and children after winding up very slightly

Cons:

~ Can really hurt your hands (burn) if the dog pulls on the lead
~ Plastic clip not as sturdy as a buckle or metal clip

So a great deal of pros, and a somewhat smaller amount but fair and honest cons there.

So now, drum roll please… what will I give this product when it comes to paw ratings?!

……………..

Its a 4 and a half paw rating!! That's good, very good.

I recommend this product - Petface has a wide variety of other canine products out there, too!

Hope y'all found help in another of our EW Product Reviews!

  5. What's a little hand burn when you have such a pretty leash and collar....lol. I normally use leather leads because the nylon ones can be too big for my hands. I am so far behind. I am missing all of the puppy fun with Ethel. I really hope to have time after this weekend's hunt test to try and catch up. :) Thanks so much for joining the hop.
