Monday Mischief - Eat This, Not That! - Guide on Edible Pet Hazards

Have you ever worried your pet has eaten something he/she shouldn't have had? Have you ever had to rush to the emergency vet for your beloved pet to have sickness induced immediately, and brought up some horrible things…? Yes? Well you know how awful this experience it. No? Well you really don't want anything like this to happen to you and your pets!!

The Eat This, Not That guide takes you through what your pet should and shouldn't eat, including some funny tales of what pets have eaten, and plenty of brilliant info on human foods that are and are NOT safe for pets. It has practical advice and examples for you and your pets to stay safe by, and enjoy benefiting from at the same time.

I was happy to be contacted being asked to share some tales of my own dogs eating things they shouldn't, and a little about the guide as I have done.

So we're here today now to share some stories of Earl and Ethel and what they have eaten that caused a panic in all situations!!!

Remember the time we suspected Earl and Ethel had eaten old chewing gum, unknowingly on the bottom of my shoe? Well, knowing how harmful and potentially fatal Xylitol is to dogs (especially the sugar free kind of gum) we rushed them to the vets, where sickness was immediately induced in both of them. Much to their happiness, coming home after the vets ready to sleep and crash out for the night, had to be given a light tea. We gave them a bowl of scrambled eggs each. This was the part that they actually enjoyed. Oh, and the main part, hehe - Ethel was found to have consumed a small amount of gum, however poor Earl, was sick for pretty much nothing. But better to be safe than sorry - as both dogs could have had serious consequences leap on them if we hand't have taken action.

Remember? If not, view the post HERE.

Ooh, what's that on the bottom of this shoe…?!

The visit to the vet's and the induced sickness made both dogs sleepy.

I've decided to spare you the sudden appetite-loss and nausea of seeing images from the vets practice of the dogs actually having the deed done….. NO, I'm joking! We had to leave the dogs at the veterinary hospital whilst sickness was being induced. Instead, you can view lovely photos of the dogs in their element, somewhat… OK, its food. They're feeling sleepy and unwell at the time, but, both being greedy, food orientated dogs, they bottled their eggs.

Definitely check out the 'Eat This, Not That!' Guide by Pet Plan - its packed with useful information.

We're happy to be participating in the Monday Mischief Blog Hop very kindly hosted by Snoopy's Dogblog, Alfie's Blog and My Brown Newfies - thanks again guys!

  3. Mischievous eating can certainly get a pup in trouble. Glad yours were ok after the gum-eating adventure. Our normally well-behaved Golden Retriever once retrieved a cooked chicken back I had just put in the trash. I saw him do it and grabbed him around the throat to prevent him from swallowing. Poor guy was more scared of me grabbing him than anything else. He gave it up and I said "bad mommy" for leaving chicken right under his nose!

  4. Great post! That's the problem with multiple dogs if you don't see what happens you don't know who done it for sure and then they both get the treatment. So glad everything worked out for the best!
