A Wasp Granted Her Gravy Bones

Odd title, eh? Well, not when you hear about poor Ethel!

For a while now, Ethel has been incredibly interested in the comings and goings of our painful friends, the wasps; especially when they make their way into our house (argh). For months, she's been googling at them, buzzing around, head butting our living room window, unable to make an escape. Oh, and... hoping to get a bite. Ouch.

Well, as hard as we tried to halt her dangerous behaviour, it came to no avail. Because only a couple of evenings ago, following a long day at work and school, Ethel was stung. On her bottom lip. By a wasp. And it lived through loosing its sting. Once I'd located the wasp sting lodged into her bottom lip, making her feel wobbly and uneasy with an incredibly rapid heartbeat, we found the culprit wasp. For evidence, we scooped the wasp into a jar, and rushed Ethel up to the vets.

And yes, the vets did manage to pull the sting out of Ethel's bottom lip, and prescribed her with some antihistamines just in case. However, when we first arrived at the vets, I was a little worried as to how any vet could calm my crazy girl down. She was going BONKERS to be there. But no, they managed to calm her down, miraculously... She recovered well, and, luckily, didn't have any funny reactions.

Oh, and guess what else?!

THE VET GAVE HER GRAVY BONES!

We're joining our hosts Snoopy's Dogblog, Alfie's Blog and My Brown Newfies in the Monday Mischief Blog Hop. We send many thanks their way, and you can join in below.

  1. My dogs keep snapping at flies, I'm so afraid they will find a larger, more painful flying toy to go after. Glad Ethel is all right.

    1. It was only a matter of time before this happened to Ethel. She'd never leave them alone. Hopefully this may have taught her a lesson, as horrible as it was. There was no way of stopping her.

  2. Arrhh poor Ethel. She must learn to seize the wasp with the teeth, chew hard and spit out. Then it is not dangerous to smell it afterwards. This is how I do it LOL. Sometimes Vaks eat the wasp afterwards. He think he is so brave :)

    1. I know, bless her! She was so brave, though! Maybe she should just keep away from them altogether from now on...

  3. Oh Ethel how scary. We just read to use a credit card swiping it against the stinger. Obviously not when it's in your lip
    Feel better sweetie

  4. Hi Y'all!

    Beware the thingies with stingers!

Hmmm...really have to rethink the treats the vet gives out.

  6. Oh, poor sweetie! But at least there were gravy bones! Rita also recently had to visit the vet for similar reasons although we don't know what got her! I worry about Rita getting stung by a bee or wasp since she loves to chase bugs, silly girl!

    1. Thank goodness for gravy bones! They made the whole situation more bearable for little Ethel. Ethel is the same; anything that moves should be pounced on!

  8. Oh, I feel Ethel's pain--literally! I got stung on the arm last night while I was lounging around in the hot tub. Maybe I should eat some meaty treats, too!

  11. Ouch! I hope she's OK now. Mr. N is allergic to bee stings so I'm super paranoid.

  14. I hate to tell you this, but a sting will probably not deter her fascination with them. Bentley tries to eat bees and has gotten his nose stung more than once! I even got rid of my hydrangeas because they drew the bees. Of course, Ethel is very smart so you might have better luck. BOL!
