Pinch Punch Post - June 2015

Well, June has finally arrived. And in only SIX days, our little Ethel will be celebrating her BIG 1st birthday, which we are SO excited to celebrate! I can't believe how quickly the time has gone since we brought here home as a minuscule, adorable little 7 week old puppy. So, this month is Ethel's month!

May has also been a good month where we are, but as far as Ethel is concerned, it hasn't! She was spayed at the beginning of the month, meaning weeks of relaxation (something that sounds nice, but is traumatising mentally for puppies!) We went to the first Agility Nuts of 2015's summer series, and had a nice time, and we also went to a champ show, where Earl didn't put a paw wrong all weekend! Ethel also got stripped for the first time, which we will post about soon!

We hope you all have a brilliant month ahead. June 2015 everyone! What are your June plans?

We at Earl's World! are delighted to be hosting our own Pinch Punch Post Blog Hop, alongside our cohosts My Dog Diaries and My Mutt Riley. We send many thanks to our lovely cohosts, and please join in with us below.

The Most Tempting Balancing Act

Earl is the king of balancing acts. He can balance just about anything on his nose, paws, legs... but sometimes, he just wants to stick to simple balancing. But when it's food, it's more tempting than the hugest inedible object. Meaning this is incredibly tempting!

Earl says: "Imagine if someone balanced a square of your favourite chocolate on your nose, and wouldn't let you devour it until they'd snapped a quick pic or a hundred!" So, maybe he has a point in some senses. But he does enjoy balancing, really. Any trick we practice is loved by us both! You know my dogs - they're born posers and performers!

SS - Flopping Out

After a long, hard day of sleeping on the sofa, Earl loves to just flop out on the grass outside. It's a hard life when you're a pampered pooch, built for a life of luxury. But then again, dogs who train and compete so hard so frequently deserve some down time.

Have FUN and Keep FIT

Who says fitness has to be boring? Who says fitness has to be keeping to a tight schedule, running at the gym to terrible music and killing yourself whilst trying? No one! Fitness can be FUN! And it can be fun for your dog, too. Anything physical is fitness, and your dog can have a good time, too. Because, at the end of the day, your dog doesn't know he needs to loose the flab! Doing tricks, messing around outside, and going for walks is all fitness, whilst you're both having fun. Earl likes keeping fit whilst doing one of his favourite things - jumping around a catching biscuits!

Biscuit catching IS fitness!

So do something fun, that you both enjoy and find fun in. It could be anything you like - just take Earl's example, and get going! Why on Earl's World should fitness be a drag? Because you need motivation to reach fitness goals and keep in shape, and motivation lies in something you both enjoy doing!

The Dogs I Own

These have been floating all around the internet recently, so I thought it was time to make my own. You see, many people - the general public - think terriers (of any breed) are naturally nasty. Fellow dog owners, who are more clued up on dogs, but still don't know too much about terriers, assume they are diggers, who slip down the nearest hole and pull out rats, even if they're just family pets. I sometimes become pulled into the agility scene, thinking my dogs are born agility dogs. But really, this is all wrong, when it comes to my truly adoring dogs.

Really, my two Border Terriers are just soft, loveable and dream dogs to me - my very best friends. And although terriers can carry certain traits, just as all dogs and breeds can, they are their own dog. They are the kindest, softest, and most adoring little dogs I could ever wish for. Yes, they are good at agility, and yes, they wouldn't say no to digging if I let them, but actually, they are my two, best friends, by my side all the time. They are not nasty, and will give anyone a warm hug, given a second's chance. They do agility for me, and love it, yes. They would rather stick with me than bury themselves down a hole, although I'm sure they would with a chance! I actually own two, amazingly loving dogs, who are loyal and incredibly loving.

P.S. I did not take the top two photos.

Chewing New Antlers

Admit it... You thought you were going to see photos of the dogs wearing antlers, weren't you? Haha! Well, you're wrong, I'm afraid. Instead, these antlers are ones much more appreciated by my two foodies. At the show, the past weekend, I bought both Earl and Ethel a new antler chew each. And you know how much they adore their antlers! As soon as they were out of the plastic shopping bag, I had all eyes, ears, and... lolling tongues! They got right to it, chomping them down. I can tell that they will last them a good while.

Did you know, chewing is a brilliant activity for dogs, as it releases endorphins which relieves stress, with every chew. Giving your dogs chews that will last more than a single chew and swallowed is also a good idea, as the chewing will last for longer. Chewing is also something fun to do for dogs, and can prevent and relieve boredom. Chewing can also help clean teeth. There are just so many benefits of chewing!

Does your dog have a chew he loves? Or does he love many chews and has no best choice? Comment your answer below.

Notts Champs Weekend

We had such a thrilling weekend at the Notts DTC Agility Champs show this gone weekend. Not only did we not put a paw wrong on any course, all weekend, we had a smashing time running. We ended up in some brilliant places, considering the classes consisted of around 50 dogs! Some included 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th. In my opinion, this was very successful! I will always be proud, because Earl always does his upmost best. The new venue was lovely, and watching the champ dogs run was amazing.

He is such a smashing boy. Always my fantastic, reliable teammate. I will always be proud of him, whatever happens, both in and out of the competitive ring. He is such a talented lad, and my true best pal. I love him so much, and he is such a pleasure to run, every single course. He will never stop being amazing, as it is just not possible. Amazing.

Earl's Silly Selfie

Earl is always attempting to take quality selfies. But this one? This one hits the nail on the head when it comes to this. He is so proud of this one, and he makes it as clear as the window above him, as he scrolls through his overloaded selfie gallery on his iBone 6. He thinks it's both cheeky, and, at the same time, stunning. Who agrees with him?

Earl is such a card. Oh, and by the way Earl, I love the tongue. No wonder you have a girlfriend, looking at this photo. And I'm more than sure she agrees with the quality shown here.

SS - Weakend

No, I am not a terrible speller, before you ask. You will understand when you read this quote, why I have made such a purposeful mistakes in my spelling... As you know, my loyal readers, I am not one to make spelling errors...

There, you see? This all makes sense. And a hilarious quote, at that. Agreed? I will take that as a certain YES from all of you out there.

Have yourselves a brilliant weakend...

Competition Prep

Competitions are exhilarating, adrenalin-pumping and exciting, for both you and your dog, whatever the sport. But they can also become stressful and nerve-wracking without the correct preparations on your part. Your dog cannot prepare, of course. He doesn't have a clue a competition is coming up. You do, on the other hand. So make sure you have everything sorted before the time comes.

THE WEEK BEFORE - Right. You are a week away from the competition. You should not be stressing over too much preparation at this stage. However, it is a very good idea to ensure your entry to the competition was successful, by checking your confirmation email again, with the classes you are entering, and all the other needed details. Ensure everything is correct. If you didn't receive a confirmation, or some details on the confirmation are incorrect, follow this up with the show organisers in advance

THREE TO FIVE DAYS BEFORE - You are three to five days away from the competition. By this stage, you should be checking your ring cards and ring plans online, and looking at what time the competition opens, what time briefing is, and what time the first class in each ring begins. You should also look at when in the day your classes are, so you can gauge when you need to be there and after what other classes. You could print your ring cards and ring plans off, however ensure you don't crumple them up by accident or loose them before the competition.

TWO DAYS BEFORE - By now, you should be checking your transport to the competition. Ensure your vehicle is full of petrol/diesel, and if not, head on down to the local petrol station and fill your tank up to the top, so you won't get stranded anywhere! Also check that your dog(s) have adequate and safe space and restriction in the car to travel. You should also be checking the directions to the venue, and checking your emails/social medias/websites to ensure the competition is still going ahead at the weekend.

THE DAY BEFORE - Now it's time to get everything you need ready and waiting by the door to go in the morning. You should pack your lunch, if you're not going to buy anything there (beware, there may not be a food stall at your competition, so come well equipped food wise, just in case), get all dog treats/toys/other rewards ready, print out and store safely running plans, gather leads and collars needed, charge your mobile phone, and organise everything into a handy bag. Put the venue address into your GPS, if needed. You can now rest assured that you have your things packed in a bag and at the door ready for when you wake up in the morning. Also, ensure your GPS is working and charged up. Charge up your mobile phone.

If you are camping at the venue, you should leave good time to head off and set up for the evening, so you're ready to wake up in the morning to compete.

THE MORNING OF THE COMPETITION - The big day has finally arrived, and you're buzzing. Try to keep nerves down to a minimum, and remain calm, for your dog. Set your alarm early enough to leave time for getting yourself ready, and leave time to give your dog a short toilet walk, before packing your things into the car and strapping your dog in. If you need a GPS, plug it in and set it up and running. You are now ready to leave for the competition! Have a safe journey there (and back!).

UPON ARRIVAL - You have arrived at the venue! Get your dog out and take him for a toilet break as you find your way around the venue. Get to know where everything is, such as the toilets, and go yourself. Check your schedule, and find the rings you are in that day, to see which classes they are currently running. Find a friend, or ask the show secretaries, if you want to know anything or ask any questions. They are there to help! If you need to book in late to a class, tell them in advance or get a friend to run over for you.

YOUR RUN - You are ready to go in. Use your running orders to find your number, and collect your ticket. Head there earlier if you are unsure. Take your dog for another quick toilet and KEEP CALM for the best performance out of both of you. Queue up, or if you like to hang back, do so. Keep your dog happy and motivate him with his core motive (food/toys). REMEMBER not to carry food in your hand in the ring. When it is your turn, put any treats well away, and drop your lead off (someone will come and collect it for you). Have a great run, and enjoy yourselves!

LEAVING THE RING AND CHECKING RESULTS - When you have ran, don't hang around in the ring. There will be someone else running after you. Praise your dog and leave the ring, where he can collect his reward. Pick up your lead, which is normally in a basket/tray upon your arrival, and go. Leave time until you check results; they won't be up until the class is over, and all runs have been processed! Don't rush! If you have earned a place in a class, wait until the judge is free, as this is when he or she will present the awards. Well done. And even without a place, well done for going in and having FUN with your precious pooch!

FUN!

Puppy Tongues

The cute, cheeky little tongues of our most adored puppies are, weirdly, irresistible. You may find this opinion strange, or maybe a little obsessive over dogs, but, if you own/have owned a puppy before, you should know how adorable it is when they stick out those wet, pink tongues of theirs'. Slurping around all day long with them. Smacking those tiny little puppy lips. There must be some food somewhere to taste, they hope, their tails wagging.

Happy #TongueOutTuesday everyone!

AN Summer Show 1

On Saturday 16th May just gone, Earl and I ventured out to yet another brilliant agility show. This time, it was the first Agility Nuts show of the summer series 2015, in our new level (and the highest level in the whole of AN), Senior. Earl did well, and got a clear 6th place, and an additional clear round. There are some amazingly speedy dogs in our new league level, and we were competing with around 25 or so other dogs. He was a good lad.

He especially enjoyed it when the people running the food stand cut his sausage up just for him, as a reward when he ran his courses! He loved his sausage; he always does love some sausage. Here he is; his cares going more towards thinking about that sausage than his rosettes! No surprise, bless him.

Mmmmm. Yum yum. Nom nom nom. Sausages.

And although, on another run, he jumped his A-Frame contact, he was absolutely in the zone! It was a lovely flowing run, and it was the home run where he made the fatal leap. However, the expression on his face as he powered down the frame was priceless, and it made me smile and laugh out loud! He never ceases to make me smile, whatever happens! To see him happy and having fun, comfortable in the ring is a good achievement to me. We love the whole experience.

Sepia Saturday - Held Prisoner

Earl wants out, and he wants out NOW! And when Earl means business, you ought to step aside. But wait. Hang on a second! No, it looks as though we have described the wrong dog. Just look below, and you will see how soft Earl really is. "Ok, ok, you let me out when you want to, don't feel pressured. Don't mind me, my dear and beloved humans..."

Earl did get let out, of course. Obviously not free of the thought inside him, which was: 'if it wasn't for that pesky young Ethel pup, this gate wouldn't be up in the first place...' Oh, come on Earl, we all know how much you love her really! And we sure do know it, don't we readers?
