Recharging Their Batteries

Dogs need their sleep, just like humans. You can't push your dog when it comes to exercise and expect him to perform well when he has no energy. Imagine being made to run yourself without an adequate amount of sleep the previous night; you wouldn't be able to do it without struggle.

Ensure your dog has time to recharge their batteries and enjoy some down time. As much as exercise is important for our dogs, this cannot occur successfully, safely or fairly without sleep. Keep your dog's welfare at heart before your want to push them, especially in competition when the prospect of winning can quickly overpower you.

We're joining our hosts SlimDoggyTo Dog With Love and My GBGV Life in the FitDog Friday Blog Hop. We send many thanks their way, and you can join in below.

  5. Kilo the Pug loves a good nap. He certainly works in bursts of energy and speed, then needs down time. Suits me.

  7. We've seen the other side of this. We live on a sailboat. On travel days, our dog Honey will snooze beside us in the cockpit. By the time we arrive at a dock or anchorage, we're exhausted but she's raring to go.

I think it's time to give her a little job on the boat. Perhaps we could teach her to raise the sails by pulling with her teeth. :)

    1. I agree! Exercise is needed, but without sleep, this cannot happen.

  12. Downtime isn't really a thing in this house, haha! Half the dogs are hyper, as is the human. ;) We walk, run, tug and train each day, but everyone sleeps soundly at night.
