Activities To Keep Your Dog Cool

As I mentioned in one of last week's posts, there are so many methods of keeping your dog cool this hot summer. You don't have to spend money to do so (although there are some amazing cooling products out there) - there are loads of fun ways to keep your dog cool at home, using household objects and very little time.

Today, we focus on an easy little game, that will not only cool your dog down when it's hot, but will also entertain your dog when it's too hot for walkies. And all you need is a bowl, access to water and a few treats!

All you need to do is fill a bowl with water (this can be a normal bowl, or you can make it bigger and use a washing up bowl or padding pool) and put a handful of dog treats in. Then, encourage your dog to dip his head in the water and retrieve the treats! This will also keep him hydrated!

A simple but fun and effective summer game!

TIP - If you use a normal sized bowl, you will probably find that your dog will drink the water like normal in order to reach the treats. This is a good thing, as long as your dog doesn't drink excessively, hasn't eaten a meal beforehand, and doesn't do masses of exercise afterwards. This would also be good for dogs who don't drink a lot normally.

Earl dips his head and gets wet for food!

Ethel makes light work of this literally cool activity.

Be creative - there's nothing stopping you from creating the most fun cooling game for your dog thus summer! Give this one a try for some inspiration - my dogs love it, and I bet your's will too!

  4. Hi Y'all!

My Human tried that and I ignored the swollen food in the water. I prefer pedialyte that has been diluted 1 to 1 with water.

  5. I'm not sure Mr. N would go diving for food even if they were steak chunks in there! He hates getting wet lol. Our foster pup would have loved it.

  8. What a great idea! Luke loves to stick his head in the water if I throw ice cubes in there, but I bet even the girls would go after treats or kibble!
